Literacy and Mathematics Intervention
At White Gum Valley Primary School, we are committed to ensuring every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential. As part of this commitment, we offer structured intervention programs in both Literacy and Mathematics for students in Years 1 to 6.
Students are identified by their classroom teachers throughout the year based on assessment data and ongoing observations. Where a student would benefit from additional targeted support, they are invited to participate in one of our intervention programs, which are delivered in small groups by experienced Education Assistants.
Literacy – UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute)
Our literacy intervention is delivered through the UFLI program, a structured and evidence-based approach to reading and writing. UFLI follows a systematic, explicit teaching sequence that builds phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, and comprehension skills. Sessions are carefully sequenced to ensure students develop strong foundational literacy skills and grow in confidence as readers and writers.
Mathematics – Bond Blocks
Our mathematics intervention uses the Bond Blocks program, a hands-on, evidence-based approach designed to develop number sense and deepen mathematical understanding. Bond Blocks focuses on building fluency with number bonds and core numeracy concepts, giving students the tools they need to engage confidently with mathematical thinking in the classroom.
Both programs are delivered daily in short, focused sessions and are regularly reviewed to monitor student progress and ensure the support provided continues to meet each student’s individual needs.
